Silhouettes

"Silhouette" is an interesting word, maybe because of the "h" lurking silently. Silhouettes can be of people, of course, but one can also create silhouettes of creatures large and small

The colorful frames shown below came from Michael's craft store. They were originally $1, marked 70% off, for a final price of 30 cents each.  :)
ignore the brown one

I spray painted the frames black and put in black-and-white print papers. The plan is to cut bat silhouettes for each one. In the meantime, I used some bat stickers I had on hand to give me an idea of what they will look like.

The larger frame below was already black - no spray paint required. It was $10. Not quite the 30-cent bargain, but not too bad.  :)

    1. Thanks! I have seen killhouettes; they're hilarious! Since my silhouettes are going in my office at work, I guess I'd better stick with cute shapes. ;)

  2. Those look really cool - definitely getting all crafty again :D I really want to get my Gothy paws on some frames like that! My plan is to either get silver ones or get ones I can paint black, have creative mounts and then do black pen & ink, pastel and pencil drawings in them - sell a few, put the rest on my walls when I have walls I can put picture hooks in so that I can do a whole wall of diddy black frames with various pictures in.

    1. Ha ha! Yeah, I do love the spray paint. I have a "to be painted" box where I stow the various treasures until it's time for another spray paint session. :)

  5. These are really cute! I look forward to seeing how you arrange them! (I picture the four smaller ones flanking the larger one somehow, but I have a feeling you have something up your sleeve!)

    1. Thanks! They're going on my bookshelf at work; I will probably group the small ones and put the large one on a different shelf.

  6. "Silhouette" is actually someone's given name. He was notoriously cheap, and cut-paper profiles of loved ones were cheaper than painted portraits. Hence, silhouette.

At least that's what I was told once upon a time.

    1. Indeed. He was not only cheap, he was the government treasurer and imposed his penny-pinching on the whole country. He was not well liked. ;)
